Virgin Galactic recently had its third successful test flight of Spaceship 2. The purpose of this test flight was to gather additional data and test out the new coating on the tail section of the plane that is near the rocket engine. Check out this great clip of the launch:
Here is what Virgin had to say about the launch:
“Today’s flight was another resounding success,” said Virgin Galactic CEO George Whitesides. “We focused on gathering more transonic and supersonic data, and our chief pilot, Dave, handled the vehicle beautifully. With each flight test, we are progressively closer to our target of starting commercial service in 2014.”
This vessel marks what will soon be the start of space tourism. Pioneered by Richard Branson, Virgin Galactic will one day provide an incredible experience that will take passengers high above the Earth. Branson and his family will be the first to embark on this program once all the testing is finalized.
