Getting a human colony on Mars has been a dream for mankind that is starting to turn into reality. Several private companies, as well as agencies like the ESA and NASA, have conducted a great deal of research into making that dream a reality.
Recent studies were conducted using synthetic soil that was meant to simulate soil from Mars and Earth’s moon. The moon soil didn’t fare well, as it had high levels of aluminum which is poisonous for plants, and the soil had high pH levels. Plants in the Martian garden did quite well and sprouted rather quickly.
Although planting a Martian garden isn’t as simple as throwing seeds around the planet’s surface, it does show that the planet’s soil could show life under the right conditions.
We’ll keep you posted as we get more information on Mars exploration, and in the meantime you can read more information about the soil tests here.
