As you are probably well aware, the cleanroom has a wide variety of uses. Cleanrooms are used for everything from consumer electronics to sending spacecraft into orbit. Cleanrooms are also being used to fight diseases.

In Johannesburg, South Africa a new cleanroom facility has been built with the aim of developing devices and systems to combat these diseases. Visit IT-Online for more information about this new cleanroom.

Do you remember NASA’s flying saucer? With big plans in mind for Mars in the future, a new system, besides the old style parachutes we’ve been using for the last 40 years, will be necessary. NASA had a test that didn’t go so well last year, but they recently welcomed journalists into their cleanroom to show off their new flying saucer that will help slow things down as we send them into the thin Martian atmosphere.

You can read more about this project, as well as see some photos here.

Fight fire with sound? It sounds crazy, but this is exactly what a few students from George Mason University are looking to accomplish with a brand new device. Check out this video to learn more:

This technology works by using the sound waves to shake the oxygen away from the fuel putting out the fire. This device is still in the testing stages, but there is a lot of opportunity in the future. Head over to Industry Tap for more information.

There is a new cleanroom coming to LeTourneau University in East Texas. This cleanroom will be used by the engineering department as well as research for a host of different activities, including microelectronic fabrication as well as research for bio sensors.

It is exciting to hear about this cleanroom and the impact it will have on students. Cleanrooms will continue to play an increasing role in our society in the production of a wide variety of goods and processes. Students will not only be learning in these cleanrooms, but also develops career skills after they graduate.
